Science in Dialogue.

The »Workshop on Fats and Oils as Renewable Feedstock for the Chemical Industry« is a biennial international event that brings together scientists and industry professionals from around the world. At its core: the latest developments in the chemical use of fats, oils, and other biobased raw materials.

Since its first edition in 2006, the workshop has become a central platform for the global oleochemical community – aiming to foster collaboration between academic research and industrial application.

The single-session format encourages focused discussion and interdisciplinary exchange in a collaborative atmosphere.

Program Structure:

  • 12 keynote lectures by internationally recognized experts.

  • Around 15 discussion lectures selected based on submitted abstracts – with a special focus on early-career researchers.

Participants & Workshop Topics.

Around 100 participants from research, industry, and applied development regularly attend – including scientists, PhD candidates, and professionals working in fields such as:

  • Cosmetics

  • Lubricants

  • Cleaning agents and detergents

  • Plastics and adhesives

The scientific program covers a broad spectrum – from basic research to market-ready applications – with a focus on:

  • Catalysis

  • Synthesis of fine chemicals, monomers, and polymers

  • Sustainability

Looking Back & Ahead.

The first edition of the workshop was held in 2006 in Emden and laid the foundation for an ongoing dialogue on the sustainable chemical use of renewable raw materials.

Since then, contributions have been published in special issues of the European Journal of Lipid Science and Technology.

The 13th workshop will take place from 8–10 June 2026 in Dortmund, Germany.
We look forward to your participation – and to three inspiring days of exchange, networking, and scientific progress.
